While there are many online and digital encyclopedias available, none is free.
Well, meet WikiPedia!
With over 400,000 articles (four times the number in Encyclopaedia Britannica), it rates as the largest online encyclopedia available.
The interesting part about it (other than being completely free) is that it's known as a "communal" encyclopedia, meaning it uses open architecture allowing any visitor to create and edit any encyclopedia article!
While this makes things a bit tricky (since some of the material may need verification), it sure is a great place to start, especially on more esoteric subjects that might not otherwise be available in other reference materials.
The site for the encyclopedia is available here.
