Even Wonder Bread Can't Take the California Heat

If you grew up in the Golden State munching PB&J sandwiches, Wonder Bread was about as much a staple as the Beach Boys and '57 Chevies.

Well, the makers of the famed bread have announced that, due to ever-increasing workers' comp. costs and union problems, it is closing its bakeries throughout the state.

Other brands, including Roman Meal, Home Pride and Baker's Inn, will also be saying hasta la vista to California.

The closures, due at the end of October, will impact about 1,300 workers in San Diego, Los Angeles, Glendale and Pomona.
