Op-Ed on Last Week's PDRS Hearings: Why New Schedule Inadequate

Important hearings were held last week on the DWC's proposed new 2009 Permanent Disability Rating Schedule.

The usual suspects were present.

Some generally in favor of the new PDRS attending:   Employer representative Scott Lipton, the California Workers Compensation Institute and various local government officials.

Some opposed:   Various union reps (Teamsters, firefighters, California Labor Federation, California Nurses Association) and other worker advocate groups (WorkSafe and the California Applicants Attorneys Association). Many disabled workers spoke at the Los Angeles hearing, not so many in Oakland.

Written material was also presented (including a proposed full "re-do" of the new PDRS by the CAAA - see companion article on this site).

Below is an excellent editorial by Julius Young, noted applicant attorney, posted in the California Progress Report, outlining the hearings, the history behind the proposed PDRS and what's at stake.
