New House Bill Would Permit Doctor Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, in Federal WC Cases
H.R. 4651 was recently introduced by Congressman Phil Hare (D-IL), a member of the House Education and Labor Committee.
Entitled the Improving Access to Workers' Compensation for Injured Federal Workers Act, the bill would amend the Federal Employees' Compensation Act to cover services provided to injured Federal workers by physician assistants and nurse practitioners.
Currently, claims signed by physician assistants and nurse practitioners are denied by the Department of Labor.
Congressman Hare indicated that he introduced the bill because federal employees, especially in rural areas, are being underserved and this amendment would provide more convenient, reimbursable health care to federal employees who suffer injuries on the job.
The bill has been referred to the Committee on Energy and Commerce.
