Measure Would Set Up Website for Public Access
to WCIRB Employer Information

Under a bill that has just made its way through the Assembly Insurance Committee, the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau would be required to set up a website available to the public which would show which employers were insured.

This is done now by the Bureau upon request of interested parties, but the process is cumbersome and time-consuming and not readily available to the public.

The bill is AB 483 (Joan Buchanan, D-Alamo) and now goes to the Assembly Judiciary Committee. It is not expected to see much, if any, opposition.

The bill would require that the website be free and show all pertinent employer information including the employer's federal id number and workers' comp carrier for the date(s) questioned. It would also provide contact information for the carrier/adjuster.
