It's Over:  Dollar Tree Death Case Finally Settled

In the final chapter of this tragic story, Dollar Tree has now formally agreed to settle for full death benefits and the decedent's family accepted the settlement.

This brings to a close a case in which the employer initially tried to deny the claim on the theory that being murdered by a stranger while at work, solely because one was African-American, makes the death "personal" and not work-related.

As we reported previously, once this theory for denying benefits hit the presses, protests quickly followed and Dollar Tree - a discount chain - saw its image (and bottom line) plummet.

Soon thereafter it did an about-face.
