CA Health and Dental Patients Now Entitled to Interpreters
Five years since the law - SB 853 - was originally signed, a new regulation finally goes into effect which gives Californians with limited abilities in English the legal right to have their health and dental plans pay for an interpreter.
The California Department of Managed Health Care, which oversees HMOs, has characterized the new regulation as the "biggest regulation effort" the department has ever undertaken.
It is estimated that the new rule will affect some 7 million state residents and cost insurers about 25 million dollars to implement.
A publicity campaign announcing the new regulation is set to begin shortly.
