New Geller Rant:   (by J. Geller*)
Conspiracy Theories and the Workers' Compensation Circus

So the WCIRB recommends a 24% raise in the premiums only 4 or so years after the massive insurance bailout -- and that was what it was, called SB 899.

Check my last rant wherein I noted "mark my words" and don't be fooled again.

So it's interesting that the new case Almarez Guzman decision comes down just in time to justify this hike. How lucky can you get?

Soon the propaganda will start blaming it all on the frivolous litigation all caused by applicant's attorneys looking for every loophole to circumvent the workers compensation reform.

And what will be the solution? Pass laws making it harder or impossible to have a lawyer if you are an applicant. See the recent Florida uproar overturning their attempt to get rid of applicant attorneys by restricting fees.

Meanwhile expert insurance hatchet man Brigham has already issued a lengthy diatribe as to why the new case should be overturned on appeal.

So we'll all get the hike and the case will be either overturned or will prove to be ineffective to any great degree.

So what does this all mean? More cuts in benefits and more bonuses for insurance company execs that just can't fleece the public enough and turn a profit.

And to those of you who dream about the day when the Democrats are back at the helm remember it was the Democratic dominated legislature who passed SB 899 in the first place. And don't forget that at least two prominent leaders of SB 899 got cushy jobs with WC insurance carriers. Just coincidence I'm sure.

Given what's going on today I think it's fair to say that our little corner of the world in WC is a microcosm of the big picture.

I don't expect any of this will rattle the general public who are the real victims of all of this as long as the bread, circuses and beer keep flowing.

But g-d help us all when the circus moves out of town.
