Spotlight on Health Care: Functional Capacity Evaluations

Posted on April 13th, 2016 by Bradley Dworkin

Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE) determine whether the injured worker has permanent work restrictions. FCEs come towards the end of medical treatment when the injured worker is at maximum medical improvement (MMI) or near MMI.

In Worker’s Compensation Law, your Doctor must write you off-work notes on a routine basis in order to recover lost wages. FCEs eliminate the requirement of routine doctor’s visits in order to establish work restrictions because the work restrictions established by the FCE are considered permanent.

Ask your doctor about a Functional Capacity Evaluation if you are near the end of medical treatment and on work restrictions.
